Parent Letter from Michelle

Dear Parents,
Welcome to the 2020-2021 school year. We are so glad you are here and can't wait to see all the children next week. Please be patient with us as we navigate implementing many new procedures.
In our video we will explain how carlines will work. This will be our first year spreading out our carlines into 4 different lines. We are hopeful that not only will it help separate our children but also run more smoothly. Remember that ones and twos have a yellow sign, threes have a red sign, fours are blue and kindergarten is yellow. If you have two children of different ages at our school, please get your younger child first in the afternoon. In the morning, I would drop of the oldest first.
Please review our Covid policy, sign and return (it will be coming home in your child's folder). Know that we do have many new practices in place to keep our students and staff as safe as possible. Here are some of the things we are doing.
1. keeping classes separated throughout the day and disinfecting surfaces they might all touch between classes (the playground, handrails, the bathroom)
2. children having their own supplies (3-K) or cleaning them after each use (1's and 2's)
3. deep cleaning, disinfecting and sanitizing frequently touched surfaces and toys in classrooms daily
4. teachers wearing masks
5. limiting people in our building
6. frequent handwashing
7. taking temperatures in the morning
8. a sick room to remove children who do not feel well from the group
9. changing smocks between comforting crying toddlers
10. new policies about when your child can return after having an illness
- Children need to stay home 72 hours after having a fever (without medication) unless seen by a doctor and have a note explaining the illness (ex. ear infection)
- 48 - 72 hours after vomiting (unless seen by a doctor and have a note)
- we will be sending home children who complain about stomach aches, headaches or general fatigue
- we are asking all parents to be especially cautious this year about illness (when in doubt, keep them home) we will send home make-up work
11. no field trips or special classes where everyone is in the same room
Although we will be very careful with the health of everyone at the preschool, we still are striving for a somewhat normal year. We want to allow the children to play, learn and have fun at school.
If you have any concerns or questions, please don't hesitate to call Michelle Davalos at 770-590-0982 or email me at the email address above.

Our Preschool

The Preschool uses a Christian based curriculum which incorporates monthly themes to teach age- appropriate skills with lots of fun hands on activities, manipulatives, and games.  We use the Zoo-phonics curriculum to teach phonics to the three to five year olds.

The daily schedule includes art, music, circle time, learning center activities, snack and outdoor or indoor large muscle play time.

Due West's Kindergarten is a Christian, half-day program.  The small class size allows children to be taught on their individual levels.  Whole group, small group and learning centers are used to teach math, writing, reading, science, social studies, English skills and Bible lessons.  Zoo Phonics is used for phonics, and common core standards are used to guide age appropriate unit studies.  Along with this, children go to music, chapel, science, Spanish and other special classes during the week.
