Confirmation in the United Methodist Church is a sacred occasion. It is a worship service where our young people publicly accept the salvation offered by Christ. During the confirmation service, young people claim their love of God through Jesus Christ in their life as they become members of the church.
We believe that young people should know what they are saying in this ceremony, what it means to be a member of the church, and what it means to be a disciple and a growing Christian. For this reason we offer confirmation classes for students to experience and grow in their faith. It is a time of intentional preparation. During confirmation class, confirmands learn about the meaning of Christian faith; the history and teachings of the United Methodist Church and an explanation of the baptismal and membership vows they will be professing.
This year, Due West Youth Ministry is offering a confirmation class this Spring. This class is designed to cover the basics of our faith; important knowledge each Youth should know to ultimately make their faith their own. We encourage students to be at least in 7th grade before taking this class so they can spend their 6th grade year getting to know the Youth Ministry and finding their place in the midst of the 6th grade transition from children’s to youth and elementary to middle school. Confirmation students will participate in 11 sessions of classes on Sunday mornings, led by Lora Parker-Gayler, with the regular drop-ins by Dr. David Campbell (Senior Pastor) and Rev. Ann Mann (Associate Pastor). Confirmation will also include a lock-in retreat and a morning of community service. Our confirmation class will close with a Confirmation Worship Service during Sunday morning worship services where the students choose to be confirmed and baptized, if they have not been previously baptized, they can join and be baptized on this special day. Families wishing to join with their youth may also join on this special day.
Confirmation orientation takes place in mid February. Classes begin on Sunday mornings during the 11:00 services in February and continue until Confirmation Sunday at the end of April.

Remind is a quick text service we use to communicate with all of our subscribers immediately. We use this most often to communicate short term and free events. This is a safe service enabling both youth and parents to receive up-to-date information about IGNITE Youth Ministries. See the graphic below to sign up for your age group.
THE PARENT GROUP WILL ALWAYS GET THE EXACT SAME MESSAGE SENT IN THE STUDENTS GROUPS, so please only sign up for one group or you'll get the messages 3 times!
Mailchimp is a great service we use to be able to put out newsletters about the upcoming seasons and events in the Youth Ministry and in the church. This is a service mostly to include parents or inform parents about what is going on in the life of Due West youth. Click Here to subscribe to the newsletter.
