Confirmation

Confirmation in the United Methodist Church is a sacred occasion. It is a worship service where our young people publicly accept the salvation offered by Christ. During the confirmation service, young people claim their love of God through Jesus Christ in their life as they become members of the church.

We believe that young people should know what they are saying in this ceremony, what it means to be a member of the church, and what it means to be a disciple and a growing Christian. For this reason we offer confirmation classes for students to experience and grow in their faith. It is a time of intentional preparation. During confirmation class, confirmands learn about the meaning of Christian faith; the history and teachings of the United Methodist Church and an explanation of the baptismal and membership vows they will be professing.

We would like to invite our 6th graders and our 7th-12th graders who have not been previously confirmed to make a significant step in the journey of faith and join a Confirmation class this year.

Two separate confirmation Classes are held each year – one in the fall and one in the spring. Traditionally, the fall class is primarily 6th graders, although 7th-12th graders are certainly welcome to attend. The spring class is traditionally smaller and has mixed ages.

Confirmation students will participate in 11 sessions of classes on Sunday mornings, led by Lora Parker-Gayler, with the regular drop-ins by Dr. David Campbell (Senior Pastor) and Rev. Ann Mann (Associate Pastor).  Confirmation also includes a lock-in retreat and a day of community service.  Our confirmation classes close with a Confirmation Worship Service where the students choose to be confirmed and baptized, if they have not been previously baptized.

Which class should you choose?
Attendance is required at all classes. Some make ups will be permitted, however, if you already know that you will miss two or more classes in the fall schedule, you may want to wait until the spring class.

Fall Confirmation

We will have a Confirmation Orientation meeting for this year’s Fall class on August 26 at 4:00 pm in the Youth Center. Fall Confirmation classes will begin September 2. The students will participate in all confirmation classes on Sunday mornings. The Confirmation class will meet at 9:39 am in the Youth Center. Confirmation Sunday will be November 11.
