Safe sanctuaries

We promise at every baptism:

"With God's help we will so order our lives after the example of Christ, that this child, surrounded by steadfast love, may be established in the faith, and confirmed and strengthened in the way that leads to life eternal."

The General Conference mandate of 1996 requires all United Methodist churches to implement policies and procedures to make sure no harm comes to those under the age of 18 or adults who cannot care for themselves while they are in our care in ministry.

Safe Sanctuaries is the program that Due West United Methodist Church provides for reducing the risk of child abuse in the church.

It is time for Safe Sanctuaries Training!

Volunteers and staff who work in any capacity with children or youth at Due West UMC are required to be certified/re-certified annually in the church’s Safe Sanctuaries policy.  This includes staff, youth counselors and volunteers, Sunday School teachers, children’s choir directors, scout leaders and assistants, and other volunteers working in new or ongoing ministries with individuals under the age of 18.   All prior certifications expired on July 31, 2017.   Some ministries have onsite training while others have online training.  Please contact the supervising person for your group to get complete details about YOUR training.  All training needs to be completed by September 30, 2017.
