Murphy-Harpst Children's Home
Murphy-Harpst is a 46 bed Behavioral Healthcare Organization designed to meet the needs of children and youth with severe emotional and/or behavioral problems. They provide residential treatment for children and youth ages 6-17 and, when appropriate, their families, who have demonstrated a need for residential treatment services at the intermediate level of care. We typically assist the children's home by providing Christmas gifts and Easter baskets. Our United Methodist Men also sponsor a dinner during the Christmas season to raise money for this ministry partner.

Project Backpack
Over 16 million children live in homes without enough food.
Research indicates that hungry children do poorly in school and have lower academic achievement because they are not well prepared for school and cannot concentrate.
Due to these facts, Due West started Project Backpack, a partnership with Clarkdale Elementary School. We are currently providing weekend meals for 75 children each week. This is how it works: after lunch on Friday, the students pick up their backpack full of food for over the weekend. They return the backpack to school the following Monday. Research has shown that the children participating in this ministry have improved attendance, grades, concentration and behavior.
We would like for everyone at Due West to be involved in this ministry. Here's how you and/or your group (Sunday School Class, Salt-N-Light Group, Bible Study) can get involved.
Duties of Backpack Team
Tuesday - Pick up backpacks from Clarkdale Elementary (two locations: Austell Intermediate and Compton Elementary). Backpacks must be picked up prior to 2:00 pm to avoid dismissal traffic.
Wednesday or Thursday - Pack the backpacks with the food for the next weekend. This is done on campus at any time the church is open.
Friday - Deliver the backpacks to the two locations. They must be delivered to Austell Intermediate by 10:00 am so students may pick them up at lunch. Backpacks need to be delivered to Compton by 1:30 pm so that the students can pick them up before dismissal.
