Military Support Team

You who live in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, will say to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress; my God, in whom I trust.”“ I will protect those who know my name. When they call to me, I will answer them; I will be with them in trouble, I will rescue them and honor them. With long life I will satisfy them, and show them my salvation.”     Psalm 91: 1-2 & 14-16

Mission Statement:

The goal of the Military Support Ministry is to provide a place for the families of military personnel to come together and support each other through prayer and fellowship while also providing opportunities to serve.

Part I: Support of the military personnel who are connected to Due West UMC through prayers, cards and care packages

Part II:  Support of the families of Due West UMC military personnel in whatever manner is deemed necessary and appropriate, be it financial, physical or emotional.

Part III: Creating a “side-door” ministry by connecting with and providing space for support group meetings with agencies like “Blue Star Mothers of America” or offer seminars on PTSD or Caring for Returning Military Family.

Sample events:

  • Great Day of Service, Patriotic Sunday, Advent Celebration etc…: Provide a table outside the FLC and/or N. Sanctuary showing the “typical” care package, “HUGS” from The HUGS Project” and opportunity for folks to create a card of encouragement to our (Due West and connected) currently serving military personnel.
  • Make “HUGS” cooling neck ties and “Freedom Bands” to sell or give with $5 donation at events like the UMM BBQ, Ministry Open House and Holiday Market. This would be an ongoing project according to need.
  • “Packing Days” Dates TBD. These will be times to get together, pray for our troops and put together the care packages to send off. Individual care package ingredients may vary according to what has been donated or where it is being shipped. However different, each box will contain at least one “HUG,” or “Freedom Band,” Military version Daily Devotional, and a personally colored card from a child and/or family.
