College Scholarship Information

2017-18 College Scholarships in Conjunction with United Methodist Dollars for Scholars Program

The United Methodist Men’s Ministry will not only continue to offer the traditional $1000.00 Phil McGuire Memorial College Scholarships in the spring, but will also be awarding scholarships specifically to students enrolled at or planning to attend United Methodist affiliated colleges or universities.  This scholarship will be awarded in January, 2018, and has a potential value of $4000.

The first step in the process is to apply for the $1000 scholarship from the Due West United Methodist Men, available only to DWUMC members.  Click the link below to print an application.  Once completed, this application must be returned to the church office by December 30, 2017.  Applicants will be advised of their selection by January 16, 2018.

Click Here to Print An Application (only for United Methodist affiliated colleges)

If selected, the second step in the process will be to apply to the United Methodist Higher Education Foundation for an additional $3000 in scholarship funds.  This application is found at www.umhef.org/UMDFSapp.php and must be submitted by March 1, 2018.  Please contact Tom Jackson at 678-355-0464 for any questions on this process.

The UMM will continue to award our traditional $1000 scholarships in the late spring to select candidates not attending United Methodist affiliated colleges or universities. That application will be available in the spring.

Confirmation

Confirmation in the United Methodist Church is a sacred occasion. It is a worship service where our young people publicly accept the salvation offered by Christ. During the confirmation service, young people claim their love of God through Jesus Christ in their life as they become members of the church.

We believe that young people should know what they are saying in this ceremony, what it means to be a member of the church, and what it means to be a disciple and a growing Christian. For this reason we offer confirmation classes for students to experience and grow in their faith. It is a time of intentional preparation. During confirmation class, confirmands learn about the meaning of Christian faith; the history and teachings of the United Methodist Church and an explanation of the baptismal and membership vows they will be professing.

We would like to invite our 6th graders and our 7th-12th graders who have not been previously confirmed to make a significant step in the journey of faith and join a Confirmation class this year.

Two separate confirmation Classes are held each year – one in the fall and one in the spring. Traditionally, the fall class is primarily 6th graders, although 7th-12th graders are certainly welcome to attend. The spring class is traditionally smaller and has mixed ages.

Which class should you choose?
Attendance is required at all classes. Some make ups will be permitted, however, if you already know that you will miss two or more classes in the fall schedule, you may want to wait until the spring class.
